Benitez Unsure About Future
Former Liverpool, Chelsea and Real Madrid manager Rafa Benitez has publicised that talks between him and his current club in regards to his future continue to role on.
The loyal and highly thought of Spaniard has been in negotiations with the Newcastle hierarchy for months but it is thought that one of the stumbling blocks are between the board and Benitez having a differing vision for the club moving forward.
Why would Benitez stay? He has shown a huge amount of loyalty to the North East club and despite promotion from the Championship to the Premier League a few seasons ago the owner has shown him a lack of financial support and backing.
After securing another season in the top flight where does Benitez take the club from here?
According to Matt Pole (Brighton and Hove Independent) Benitez’s contract officially expires on June 30 and the Magpies’ travelling support at Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday made it clear they wanted the former Liverpool and Real Madrid boss to stay.
After the 1-1 draw with Brighton at the weekend the Spaniard has expressed an interest to stay on at the club and to sign a new contract but you would have thought a manager of his experience and credentials would be chased down quickly.
When asked the contract situation further, Benitez said:
“In the end you want to do things as soon as possible to make sure that you can start working but we will see.
“I saw Lee (Charnley, managing director at Newcastle) this morning and I said hello. We talk every week. It’s not an issue.
“But it’s not dependant on me. I’m waiting.
“I don’t know (how long I’ll wait), it depends. What we want to do in the future is key. “You have different ambitions and we have to find a point in between with that.
“If not we have to talk and try to move forward as soon as possible.”
Why should Benitez wait around for Newcastle to make him an offer?
Are Newcastle showing a severe lack of respect to Benitez? It’s not fair to him and not fair to the players or supporters who need to know the future of their great club.
