Manchester United take on their significant other halves tonight in what is deemed to be the most significant game of the season. Can United stun their noisy rivals? Last year they were able to but if Man City claim a result tonight they will move one step closer to retaining their title.
It has turned out to be a most thrilling contest between the Reds and the Blues and Liverpool fans are in an unusual position of supporting Manchester United. Liverpool sit two points ahead of City but have played a game more. They know that a Man U win or perhaps draw will see Pep Guardiola’s men drop points which could potentially mean the title heading the way of Liverpool for the first time in almost 30 years.
Last year it was United who came away with the local bragging rights as United’s Paul Pogba led a Reds comeback scoring twice in a 3-2 win.
Can United recover?
Man United are going through a really desperate phase. Knocked out of European and domestic cups while losing in the league has shattered a growing confidence that Solskjaer had built up since his arrival at Christmas. Winning just two of their last eight games has left them in the perilous position of possibly not securing a Champions League spot next season.
Can they do it?
After training at their old training complex (The Cliff) Man United have only had a few days to recover from their humiliating loss on away to Everton. According to the Daily Mail the United players trained at the clubs old training ground to give the squad a huge reality check. The players left their base at the Hilton Hotel at approximately 1030am and headed to Salford to use the base that they have not used since 2000.
It is thought that Solskjaer wants to instil some of the old fashioned values that United was built upon and when talking to Sky Sports at the weekend he has said,
“I want my team to be the hardest working team in the league.
“That is what we were under Sir Alex [Ferguson], that’s what we’ve always been. No matter how much talent you have got, you run more than anyone.”
