Manchester United went down 2-0 at Old Trafford last night with goals from Bernado Silver and Leroy Sane securing a great result for The Blues at the home of their local rivals.
The game started well with both teams having equal amounts of possession. United at times had City under their thumb in the first half but this was only temporary as normal service did resume for Manchester City early in the second half when Bernardo Silver cut in from the left and beat De Gea at his near post.
Any positives that United had taken from the 1st half would be silenced after the introduction of Leroy Sane. Taken off the bench in the 51st minute it did not take him long to make an impact and 15 minutes later he put the game to bed with a match winning goal.
“The wheel’s are falling off,” goaded City fans in reference to Solskjaer’s wheel.United’s replied with,
‘We’ve won the f*****g lot’.
It is unfortunate that past success does not count for much in this day and age as a new era has arrived. It is hard to imagine how United can compete with Manchester City or Liverpool to claim back the title that has so far eluded them since 2013.
Solskjaer will now surely have to embark on a summer clear out of the United squad with several members of the United team set to leave. With a new defence a priority this would leave the likes of Chris Smalling, Ashley Young, Antonio Valencia and Phil Jones facing the chop.
One thing is certain. The gap between United and their main rivals will certainly keep increasing as both Liverpool and United will surely add to their squad ready for Premier League 2019/2020.
