Roy Keane has left his post with Nottingham Forrest with immediate affect after five months as assistant manager.
Keane confirmed in a statement that he had parted ways with the club having worked with the experience of manager Martin O’Neill.
“Working with Martin over the last few years has been a magnificent experience, one of my greatest in football both as a player and a coach and one I want to personally thank him for,” Keane said.
No reports have suggested Keane and O’Neill have fell out but his departure have fans speculating that he may come back to Manchester in a coaching capacity (MEN).
Solskjaer is trying to rebuild and it would be an immense appointment if Keane could be persuaded to return to Old Trafford.
United have missed characters’ such as Eric Harrison who had success with the class of 92 and Keane would command the respect of young players and bring old school discipline back to the club.
It seems unlikely that he would consider a move back to United but while he is a free agent it seems that the fans are afforded the luxury of thinking…what if?
