Did Liverpool disrespect United?
That was the question posed by former Red legend Jamie Carragher who accused Liverpool of “underestimating” Manchester United in their Premier League encounter last weekend.
Jurgen Klopp’s side laboured to a 1-1 draw after spending up to the last few minutes of the game trailing to Marcus Rashford’s opener.
Adam Lallana’s late goal kept their unbeaten streak alive by scoring in the 85th minute but it was easily their worst performance of the season to date.
According to The MEN Jamie Carragher and Gary Neville believed Liverpool had just played the occasion, which led to a below-par performance, however, the former Liverpool defender has a new verdict on their display.
“I think the response will be getting back to what they have been doing all season. I think that was the first time you could really accuse Liverpool of that,” Carragher told Sky Sports.
I think me and Gary (Neville) were speaking about it in commentary ‘they’re playing the occasion’, thinking of the record at Manchester United. I actually think it was the other way around.
“I think they went in and thought we’re only playing United, they’re 14th in the league and forgot who they were. It was like they didn’t think it was going to be a derby game.
“It was until the second half and Fabinho left one on Daniel James, van Dijk did the same, but they still couldn’t get back to the levels they have shown this season to go on and win the game”
“They were poor and they were outfought and it was as if they forgot who they were up against in a huge derby game.”
Manchester United need to build momentum going into today’s match to Norwich. A win away from home is a must for Ole’s team and after seeing the youth shine at Chelsea he will be hoping for a good performance from all members of this team.
