Frank Lampard could be unveiled Chelsea manager before the end of the week after Derby County gave permission for the Londoners to speak to him.
According to ESPN Chelsea expect to finalise Lampard’s appointment on a three-year deal later this week having giving the impression that they would meet Derby’s £4 million valuation in compensation.
Derby want Lampard to stay and Lampard has been offered a new contract. However, they are now resigned to losing the man they gave a taste of management to and a person who led them to the Championship playoff final in his rookie season.
Derby have reported that;
“Derby County Football Club can confirm that they have granted permission for Chelsea Football Club to speak to Frank Lampard about the vacant managerial position at Stamford Bridge.
“With preseason fast approaching for both clubs it is hoped this will allow Chelsea to swiftly conclude their discussions.
“The club will make no further comment until it is appropriate to do so.”
Lampard has little choice but to accept the offer of a management role back at the club where he made his name.
His stock as a manager is high and it is a risk to take the role but also a risk not to take it. Managers do not get much time to cement there position so Lampard will have to have a clear view of what he expects and what he wants to achieve.
Lampard does come across as a very determined and knowledgeable man. His status in the game as a player will surely command respect and I hope if he takes the role he gets off to a great start.
