Frank Lampard has given his side of the David Luiz’s departure from Chelsea as he spoke out at a press conference.
The Chelsea manager will see his side line up against Manchester United on Sunday and with both managers assembling their squads for the upcoming season it as a surprise announcement of th departure of the Brazilian.
Luiz made an unexpected switch across London to Arsenal on transfer deadline day and there was plenty of speculation about what prompted such a sudden move. Lampard clarified what happened in his press conference and what went on behind the scenes.
Speaking to media he revealed openly that he had honest dialogue with the player and it prompted his decision to seek a transfer.
Lampard speaking to the media said;
‘David Luiz has obviously left and gone to Arsenal,’
‘We had some honest conversations over the last week because I know him well and the conclusion of that was he is gone.
‘It’s an area of the pitch where we have competition. I don’t have number ones or twos. They have to fight for that shirt. I wish him the best because he has been a big part of our history.’
As Lampard cannot sign any players for one whole season it may be seen as a very risky decision allowing someone of David Luiz ilk to leave for a rival. Although his defensive qualities are questionable he does provide quality to other areas of the pitch and the Chelsea support will no doubt hope Lampard has got quality back up for the player covered.
On the whole David Luiz was a success at the club being part of a team who won the title and brought the Champions League home In 2012.
