Manchester City target Juve’s Cancelo

Manchester City are looking to shore up their full back positions.

With Bernard Mendy missing large chunks of last season through injury and boss Pep Guardiolo not trusting Danilo, cover is required.

Portugal’s Joao Cancelo of Juventus is of interest. He can play on both flanks and even further forward as winger, preferably on the right. This would be perfect for reigning champions Manchester City as they also look for reliable cover for England’s first choice Kyle Walker. Manchester City favour an outright purchase but Juve are looking to tie in Danilo with the deal.

The Manchester Evening News reports that Man City want close to £25m for Danilo, while Cancelo is reportedly valued at around £45m.

City however want to clinch Cancelo’s signature quickly so they can build early in their attempts to fend off another threat to their title from North West rivals Liverpool. City’s impressive recruitment over the last two seasons in the full backs areas has been instrumental in their title campaigns and they cannot afford to take a backward step now, especially with Liverpool boosting the world class talents of Robertson and Alexander-Arnold in those spots.
