Dr Hilary Jones, one of Britain’s most loved and respected medical broadcasters, has encouraged the nation to get active as we continue to emerge from lockdown.
Speaking at the launch of the new Powerleague centre in Harrow, Dr Hilary advocated the particular benefits of outdoor team sports, such as small-sided football, as some of the most safe and secure forms of exercise we can take during these unprecedented times – with the benefits to our physical and mental health outweighing the potential risks posed.
Dr Hilary said, “From a health and wellbeing perspective, there are so many benefits to playing small-sided football, both physically and mentally. As we emerge from lockdown, many people will have been cooped up, unable to exercise and socialise, and it’s vitally important that people are able to get back to exercising and playing team sports in a safe and secure manner.
“Small-sided football is a perfect example of marrying the physical benefits of exercise, with the mental and social advantages you het with team sports. Powerleague is a great example of a company meeting that need, and it’s great to see that they’ve been able to open their latest centre in Harrow, offering their first class services and facilities to more people in a Covid-secure environment.”
At a time when many businesses are sadly closing their doors, Powerleague is investing in the future health and wellbeing of the people of Harrow and the surrounding areas, giving them the opportunity to enjoy small-sided football in a safe and secure environment.
Christian Rose, Powerleague CEO, added “After a long delay brought about by the Covid-19 pandemic, we’re thrilled to finally be able to open the doors to our newest centre here in Harrow. The centre will be a fantastic asset to the community and the students here at Harrow High School, especially during the challenging landscape we’re all living through at the moment.
“It’s been great to have Dr Hilary here opening the facility. As such a well-known and well-respected medical expert, hearing him advocate for the physical and mental health benefits of small-sided football has been wonderful, and we can’t wait for our players to enjoy the great facilities we have here.”
