This is a really good summary, and the selections feel much more realistic than other attempts I’ve seen at this.
Of course I have a few disagreements though…
While on current form it’s very easy to leave out Fishlock and Kirby since neither is really playing, they are both players of huge quality and I doubt Neville will actually leave them out if they are playing come the Spring. I’d imagine they will take the places of Stanway and either England or Cuthbert.
Taking Roebuck feels very risky, despite her obvious talent. She’s still incredibly young, some sides won’t have a player her age in their squads at all, let alone a goalkeeper. And considering at the last two major tournaments Bardsley has had to drop out through injury part way through taking her even as a backup feels uncomfortable to me. Would you really want to put a 20 year old goalkeeper who has never played at a major tournament before straight into a Semi Final? I think it will probably be Earps or Telford behind Bardsley for the next couple of tournaments, with Roebuck and MacIver fighting it out for the starting spot for 2023, by which time they’ll both have loads more experience.
I’d love to see Caroline Weir or Jen Beattie make the squad. I think in a lot of ways both fit the way Neville wants to play better than some of the England players, but given the short time he has to work with his squad both will probably miss out, the more non-England players he tries to integrate the harder it is going to be.
