Football commentators’ authentic match notes for famous games involving Man United, Liverpool, Arsenal, Man City, Chelsea, Everton and Spurs. Framed or rolled prints of ITV commentator Clive Tyldesley’s hand-written commentary charts for epic Champions League finals and title deciders.
United’s amazing victory in Barcelona in 1999… Liverpool’s legendary success in Istanbul in 2005… Chelsea’s extraordinary win in Munich in 2012… Arsenal’s remarkable title triumph at Anfield in 1989… Clive commentated on all those celebrated games and these are prints of the distinctive research notes he prepares for all live matches.
It was Clive’s friend, Radio 1 presenter Chris Stark, who suggested he publish his charts as souvenir keep-sakes for football fans, and the initial response has been overwhelming. From day one, there has been a huge demand for the first 9 commentary charts and hundreds of suggestions for other memorable games to get the Tyldesley treatment.
“I can’t believe he hasn’t drawn up a chart for Watford’s incredible FA Cup semi-final win over Wolves yet,” said Hornets fan Chris. “Clive has promised me the moment we reach a Champions League final, he’ll get to work on one. In the meantime, I just think these immaculate pieces of football art deserve to be seen and enjoyed by all football fans. The work that goes into them is ridiculous and they are mesmerising to look at.”
Clive has compiled a chart for every game he has called since his radio debut in 1976. They are the product of hours of research. “The data on the charts provides a safety net but I think they are as much a psychological prop,” explains the award-winning commentator who was expecting to be commentating to millions at Euro 2020 this summer. “When you look down at the notes before the game they just tell you that you’ve prepared properly. They are my comfort blanket.”
Commentary charts provide the ultimate memento of never-to-be-forgotten nights in the lives of so many grandads, dads and dads-to-be. They display the names of the players that made the headlines and the background story to each occasion.
From Everton’s European semi-final win over Bayern in 1985 through to momentous Champions League wins for Spurs and Liverpool in 2019, the commentary charts represent football artwork that has never been available before.
